The Monash HEARD team has developed a series of health promotion videos in Malaysian Sign Language (BIM) to improve access to essential health information for the Deaf community. The videos cover key topics such as the effects of alcohol use, HIV and AIDS awareness, stress management, and mental health.

The first three videos were developed with support from the Monash NEED Grant. In a separate phase, three additional videos focusing on mental health awareness, recognising depression, and addressing stigma were produced in collaboration with MyBIM (Malaysian Sign Language and Deaf Studies National Organisation). These videos feature Deaf actors to ensure cultural and linguistic authenticity and were funded by the Selangor State Government in 2023.

Accessible health information remains a significant challenge for many Deaf individuals, particularly when it is not delivered in their primary language. By presenting content in BIM, these videos aim to make health information more understandable, relevant, and inclusive.

Through Deaf representation and language accessibility, the videos help to build trust, improve engagement, and support better understanding of important health issues. They also encourage individuals to recognise early signs, make informed decisions, and seek help when needed.

Together, these efforts contribute to improving health literacy and reducing information barriers, supporting more inclusive and equitable public health outreach for Deaf individuals in Malaysia.

The videos below are presented in Malaysian Sign Language and address key health topics relevant to the Deaf community. Each video is accompanied by a summary to help guide viewers through the content.
