An online orientation session was held on 4 June 2025 to introduce the Standard Mental Health First Aid Course to members of the Deaf community. The session aimed to help participants understand what the course involves and to support them in deciding whether to register. As some participants were unable to attend on the original date, the orientation was repeated on several other days to ensure everyone had a chance to join. In total, around 70 Deaf participants attended the orientation across all sessions.
During the session, participants were introduced to the purpose and content of the course, including how to recognise signs of mental health challenges, offer basic support, and encourage professional help when needed. The orientation also outlined the course structure, commitment required, and how it can empower Deaf individuals to support mental well-being within their communities.
Originally, two types of courses were planned: the Standard Mental Health First Aid Course and the Adolescent Mental Health First Aid Course. However, due to low demand for the adolescent-focused course, it was cancelled and replaced with an additional session of the standard course.
Many participants shared that the orientation gave them a clearer understanding of the course and helped them feel more prepared to make an informed decision. The session also encouraged open conversations about mental health and the importance of community support.
